Funded by the Barcelona Municipality and supported by MedCities, the RESILIENCE Project, implemented by the Bethlehem Municipality, concluded an intensive training program consisting of 12 specialized workshops aimed at developing small businesses led by women. The program took place during September and October 2025 at the Peace Center and Palestine Ahliya University, focusing on strengthening participants’ skills in business management, digital marketing, branding, and strategies for growth and sustainability. The workshops were delivered by a distinguished group of trainers and experts.
A total of 18 women entrepreneurs from various areas across Bethlehem Governorate benefited from the program. Among them was Nicole (23) from Beit Jala, who runs a small beauty business. She described the training as “a complete turning point that transformed my work from random management into a strategic process. It strengthened my confidence, improved my marketing skills, and expanded my vision toward establishing a fully equipped beauty center.”
The program concluded with a celebratory gathering during which certificates were awarded to the participants in recognition of their commitment and dedication. The ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Bethlehem, Mr. Nicola Qanwati, the Director of the Community Development and Continuing Education Institute (CDCE-I), Mr. Khaled Shanaa, the graduates, and their families.
In his remarks, Mr. Qanwati praised the program’s results, stating: “The commitment demonstrated by the participants is truly commendable. Small-scale enterprises play a vital role in supporting the local economy, and empowering women entrepreneurs contributes directly to the resilience of our community.”
For his part, Mr. Shanaa highlighted both the success of the training and the challenges encountered, noting: “Despite the significant achievements of this program, we faced several challenges, particularly mobility restrictions caused by the political and security situation, which affected access to the training venue. Yet, the workshops succeeded in creating a dynamic and interactive learning environment and a strong support network among talented and motivated women.”
Speaking on behalf of the graduates, Ms. Rasmiya Harfoush expressed gratitude to all partners involved in the training series, saying: “We sincerely thank everyone who contributed to organizing and delivering this program. It is essential to continue strengthening women’s participation in the economic and social spheres, especially given the growing challenges facing Palestinian society.”
Through these integrated efforts, the RESILIENCE Project continues to advance economic empowerment for women, support the well-being of children and youth, and contribute to building a more creative, resilient, and sustainable Bethlehem.
